Established at the end of 2019, Tools For After is a laboratory of ideas, a call to arms not only aimed at designers and architects, but at anyone who provides solutions, projects, fantasies, models or tools that may be useful in the face of the new challenges of the Anthropocene. The question is simple: What are Tools For After? What is useful to design in the Anthropocene? The future has changed, the Anthropocene has transformed time and rendered obsolete the rules and scenarios we have used up until now. Imagination has changed because the world has changed. But imagining also changes reality. To imagine is to design. The Designer is a visionary, has the task of imagining tools for a changing future. Tools For After aims to draw a map of the collective imagination of the Anthropocene to collaboratively explore possibilities and utopias.
Since April 2020 TFA has carried out several initiatives in parallel to the main call for entries: Anthropocene Design Week and Anthropocene Design Talks. Both events have seen professionals from all sectors (teaching, architecture, design, art, local administration, writing, etc.) present their points of view regarding the Anthropocene. TFA now comes to Bilbao Bizkaia Design Week with a new meeting open to everyone, which will be held both in-person and online, to promote the creation of a user manual for life in the Anthropocene.
